Abstract:

This talk explores the language and narratives that appeal to physicians and surgeons around supporting breastfeeding mothers and treating their breastfeeding challenges. Through a series of in-person, phone, email, and survey "interviews" , practitioners (pediatrician, neonatologist, family, ENT, oral surgeon, dental surgeon, naturopathic) are questioned about:
1. What resonates with them;
2. What triggers them;
3. What encourages them to work with a breastfeeding support person or lactation consultant;
4. What discourages them from communication with the BF support person;
5. What advice they have (for those who are supporting breastfeeding mothers) on how to best communicate with MDs etc. when hoping to collaborate around a dyad's case.
