Abstract:
Skin conditions have characteristic patterns and can occur on the lactating nipple and breast. Many conditions are painful, or itchy, and can be distressing, particularly for individuals who are breastfeeding. This talk will briefly explain skin structure and consideration of skin colour and examine the identification of common skin conditions with a focus on dermatitis and infections. The history of the problem will often indicate the diagnosis, which may be confirmed on examination. Management involves explanation, advice about good skin care, and safe use of medication.
